President of Iran arrives in Venezuela to meet with Maduro

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, arrived in Venezuela on his first official visit to the country, where he will hold a meeting with his counterpart Nicolás Maduro.

This Monday afternoon, the president of the Persian country landed at the Maiquetía International Airport where he was received by the Venezuelan diplomatic delegation, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil.

Raisi toured “friendly countries” in Latin America. After the first stop in Caracas, he will continue his trip to Nicaragua and Cuba in the coming days.

In the meeting with President Maduro, it is expected that they will ratify binational strategic cooperation in economic, political, scientific and energy matters, amid the Unilateral Coercive Measures imposed by the United States on both nations.

Earlier this day, Maduro highlighted on Twitter that Venezuela found true friends in the world, “with whom we are united in resistance, courage and self-determination to continue being free peoples. We will always welcome you to our Homeland!”, on the occasion of the visit of Ebrahim Raisi.

Cooperation between Tehran and Caracas deepened since the time of the late President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013) and has strengthened since then.

At present, Iran has become one of the main allies of the Government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who visited the Persian country in May 2022.
