The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) clarified that the power blackout that occurred on June 8 in different areas of Nicaragua was due to a coordination error at the Garabito thermal plant in Puntarenas.
Hours earlier, authorities in that country had classified as false the statements by the president of the Electric Transmission Company (Enatrel) in Nicaragua, Salvador Mansell, who stated that the suspension of service was due to failures in the neighboring country.
ICE detailed, through representatives of the National Electricity Control Center, that three turbines at the plant stopped working and another eight shut down automatically, causing 20 distribution lines to be disconnected.

The electrical failure left 60% of the towns in Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras without electrical service. In our country, it affected the departments of Masaya, Managua, Jinotega and León.
The Control Center of the Regional Operating Entity (EOR) issued a statement in which it described the incident as an emergency event in the electrical system.
