Hellas Verona prevailed 3-1 on their visit to La Spezia, this Sunday in the ‘playoff’ to avoid relegation to the second division of Italian football, where a playoff was also played for promotion in which Cagliari beat Bari 1-0.

Thus, Hellas Verona and Cagliari complete the team list participants in Serie A 2023-2024, while Spezia and Bari will play in Serie B.

Spezia and Hellas Verona finished seventeenth and eighteenth in the recent Serie A, only separated by goal difference, so they had to go to this ‘playoff’ to find out which of the two should accompany the already condemned Cremonese and Sampdoria to second place.

Marco Faraoni put Hellas ahead in minute 5 and La Spezia tied at 15 through Ethan Ampadu. The hero of the Veronese was then the Belgian Cyril Ngonge, with a double (26, 38).

Despite the fact that Faraoni was expelled in ’68, Hellas Verona maintained its margin of two goals and did not suffer to achieve victory and send La Spezia to the second category.

The other focus of attention in ‘Calcio’ this Sunday was in the southern region of Apulia, where Bari and Cagliari played the second leg of his repechage for promotion to the elite.

In the first leg, on Thursday, both teams had drawn 1-1 in Sardinia. In the second leg, Cagliari won 1-0 as a visitor, with a goal from Leonardo Pavoletti in the 90+4 minute, thus achieving promotion to the Sardinian first division.

Cagliari, a historic club with over a hundred years of historyhad descended to Serie B a year ago. He has only had to spend one season in the second category before returning to the first division.

Thus, he joins the two teams that automatically achieved promotion by occupying the first two positions in Serie B recently finished, the Frosinone and the Genoa.
