Pope Francis is evolving favorably after the laparotomy that was performed on him last Wednesday. He is “fever free and hemodynamically stable,” the Vatican press office said.
“The medical team reports that the clinical picture is progressively improving and that the postoperative period is regular,” adds the official report, released this Saturday by Matteo Bruni, the office director.
The report further states that Francisco “rested overnight,” that he is fed a semi-liquid diet, and that “he is following a careful convalescence that aims to reduce the stress on the abdominal wall to allow the implanted prosthetic mesh and repair of the muscular fascia heal optimally”.
On the other hand, “postoperative blood tests and chest X-ray are good.” Since Friday the pope “began to move, spending most of the morning in an armchair. This allowed him to read the newspapers and resume his initial job.”
Francisco expresses his gratitude, underlines the note, and “is moved by the many messages he continues to receive wishing him a speedy recovery.”
