Cuban weightlifter Thalía Castillo (45 kg) won three silver medals yesterday Friday during the second day of the 2023 Havana Weightlifting Grand Prix, which runs until June 18 at Pabexpo.
Castillo signed a 60 kg snatch, a 75 kg clean and jerk and a total of 135 kg in a good fight against the Venezuelan Rosielis Quintana (68+91/159 kg), who finally won gold.
Dominican Olympian Beatriz Pirón (49 kg) won two trophies. She led the group A snatch, lifting 85kg, which added to a 105kg clean and jerk gave her a 190kg biathlon, this to place her ahead of American Hayley Rechardt.
The bronze went to the also Dominican Dahiana Ortiz with 183 kg (83+105).
Among men, in group B of the 61kg Bin Kasdan Mohamad of Malaysia led with 124kg snatch and 153kg clean and jerk for 277kg biathlon. The Cuban Orelvis Machado was eighth.
Today, Saturday, nine girls will compete in the 55 kg and ten boys in the 61 kg, both in series A.
Only Arley Calderón will compete for the Cuban squad this Saturday, registered with 285 kg of biathlon in a group led by the results of the Indian Ricko Saputra (291 kg).
Cuba adds three titles, won on the first day by Osmel Argote (55 kg), and three silver medals through Castillo in the 45 kg.
