The first Cuban dancers Grettel Morejón and Dani Hernández will be part of the opening of the season of presentations of the National Ballet of Costa Rica, which begins this weekend.
The piece chosen to open the cycle will be the classic Cinderella, which begins with three presentations, one on Saturday June 10 and two on Sunday June 11 at the National Theater company headquarters in San José.
According to Prensa Latina, a total of 35 dancers will give life to the show inspired by the libretto by Nikolai Volkov and based on a fairy tale by Charles Perrault. It takes place in three acts with the music of Sergei Prokofiev, explained the director of the Costa Rican company, Viviana Clare.
The staging is carried out by Pedro Martín and Annia Rosales, who work with the dancers in the production.
Grettel Morejon she became prima ballerina of the National Ballet of Cuba in 2016. According to the institution’s official website, her repertoire includes solo roles from the romantic-classical tradition and contemporary works by Cuban and foreign choreographers.
Daniel Hernandez He has been the company’s principal dancer since 2011. Due to his disciplined work and technical-stylistic mastery, he is considered one of the most valuable male exponents of the Cuban school of ballet.
Hernández has been proclaimed by the magazine dance europe «one of the most outstanding dancers in the world» in the period 2011-2014.
