Luis Fley, from the FDN: “With purges, the regime wants to get ahead of the implosion”

Ortega regime suffered greater "international isolation" in 2022, says the UN

In the opinion of Luis Fley, the leader of the Nicaraguan Democratic Forces (FDN), the latest internal purges of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) show that the Daniel Ortega regime wants to get ahead of the implosion. “The degree of the crisis that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega is going through is high,” he stressed.

“They are radicalized and that is motivated by the internal crisis they are suffering,” said the opposition politician. Fley’s statements come at a time when there is still no clarification regarding the retired general of the Nicaraguan Army, Omar Halleslevens, who held positions in the Nicaraguan Vice-Presidency office and was abruptly fired. It is said that he is home from jail.

Other facts are the purges in the National Police, the repressive arm of the regime. «As a ranchera song says, my word is the law and that seems to happen in El Carmen and those who send the guidelines that come out of Carmen are law. He who only thinks of straying is oppressed,” said Luis Fley.

“Whoever does not comply with the orders of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, whoever does not abide by them, whoever murmurs and reluctantly does things falls into disgrace before the dictatorship,” warned the opposition leader.

“In recent days, we have seen how disgrace has fallen from General Halleslevens to high police commissioners and other intermediary people of Sandinismo,” he added.

Less thinking every time

The leader of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force also expressed that the Sandinista Front would be left with “servile” affiliates, without the ability to think. “The vision is that the Sandinistas in the figure of Daniel Ortega and Mrs. Rosario Murillo are purging their ranks and are leaving only the people who are, as they say, loyal, who in other words are servile and drawn,” he said.

Luis Fley also stressed that the Ortega party could be purging all those who could represent a danger within its ranks, with the aim of “avoiding implosion within the party.” “Many analysts have warned of this process and say that it is already underway, so the regime wants to get ahead of it,” he reiterated.

Analyst Eliseo Núñez Morales pointed out that the regime viewed General Halleslevens with suspicion for holding meetings with other active soldiers and that this raised the suspicions of Rosario Murillo and Daniel Ortega. The dictatorship decided to oust him because he felt threatened.

In Núñez’s opinion, both Ortega and Murillo are “paranoid.” He pointed out that the dictatorship will remove from the road whoever it believes could threaten the dynastic succession that Ortega structures with his wife and his children.

“That is why Halleslevens is in the way today, yesterday Alba Luz Ramos was in the way, before Lenin Cerna was in the way, and before that another number of Sandinistas,” he said.
