Influenza virus is being much more aggressive than in previous years

Influenza cases are increasing and although the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre has said that it is normal due to the rainy season, he indicated that the virus is attacking with more force to the point that in the province of Colón an 11-year-old girl He died from this disease.

In Panama, a total of 5 deaths due to influenza have been confirmed by the health authorities, for which reason Sucre has reiterated to the population to go to get vaccinated to avoid complications and the risk of getting sick.

He reiterated the importance of being immunized against this virus, mainly among young people, since deaths have occurred in this age group; that is to say that the older adults are the ones who are coming to receive the dose of influenza.

“The National Government, through Minsa and the epidemiology team, has installed a situation room where this disease is permanently and constantly monitored,” said Sucre.

He mentioned that on this occasion it has been observed that the virus has been more aggressive than on other occasions, which is why he has issued instructions to all health facilities to have a contingency plan to be prepared if necessary, although the number of patients who are found are regular.

He made it clear that none of the deceased was vaccinated and all have been under 55 years of age.

He pointed out that the National Government has made influenza vaccines available both at the Minsa and CSS facilities.
