The classic of the maximum between Sao Paulo and Palmeiras is the tie with more morbidity

The 2023 Copa do Brasil reaches its decisive phase. This Tuesday the draw for the quarterfinals, and the rest of the KO tournament draw, was held at the headquarters of the Confederaçao Brasileirao de Futebol (CBF) in Rio de Janeiro. And the confrontation that has raised the most interest is the classic between Sao Paulo and Palmeiras, with the first leg at the Morumbi stadium, and the return at the Allianz Parque, the fiefdom of ‘Verdao’.
The people of Palmeiras, who are competing for the triple crown, are the great favoritess, but, in last year’s edition, they were already eliminated by Sao Paulo on penalties (Tricolor won 1-0 at home and, in the second leg, Verdao won 2-1).
The other star tie will be led by two of the cup-bearer teams par excellence in recent seasons: Flamengo, now managed by Jorge Sampaoli, and the Ath. Paranaense, where Vitor Roque stands out, one of the Barcelona goals for this coming summer. The first leg will take place in the Maracana and the return leg at the Arena da Baixada, one of the country’s stadiums with artificial turf.
This will be the fifth time in a row that the two black and white teams will face each other in the Copa do Brasilwith absolute equality: the ‘Mengao’ emerged victorious in the 2020 and 2022 crossovers, and the Furacao, in the 2019 and 2021 editions.
The other two duels in the quarterfinals will be carried out byl America Mineiro – Corinthians (the winner will face the winner of Sao Paulo – Palmeiras in the semifinals) and the Bahia – Guild.
The Copa do Brasil quarterfinal tie will be decided in two consecutive weeks, June 5 and June 12.
