After heavy rains left at least 42 dead in Haiti over the weekend, this Tuesday four people died on the island after a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
The epicenter of the quake was in the Bonbon community in the Jérémie district, south of Port-au-Prince. According to the authorities, the earthquake has left at least four dead and hundreds of houses destroyed.
The United Nations Organization (UN) is already providing humanitarian aid to the victims of both the earthquake and the floods and has already given nearly 51,000 plates of hot food.
“The UN stands ready to work with the Haitian authorities and other partners to help reduce the suffering of those in need as a result of the earthquake,” said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
