Graduated from the National School of Art in the mid-’90s, Alexander Abreu is today considered one of the most important musicians on the contemporary sound scene in Cuba. He was a professor of jazz and Cuban music at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory from Copenhagen and was part of the Irakere group.
During his career he has collaborated with renowned figures such as Chucho Valdés, Chick Corea, Hugh Ramopolo Masekela and James Morrison Catchpole.
In 2007 Abreu created his own musical group, with which he has recorded several albums, including the album It will be over (Abdala/ Páfata Productions), Cubadisco Grand Prize (2022). The album contains several hits of Cuban popular music from the 80s and 90s of the last century such as “El baile del buey cansao” (Juan Formell) and “Échale Limón” (José Luis Cortés).
