Monsignor Báez: “Whoever lives united to God does not hurt or offend, but respects the rights of others”

Based on the biblical reading about the Holy Trinity -Father, Son and Holy Spirit- Monsignor Silvio Báez exhorted, during his homily this Sunday, from the Santa Agatha Church, in Miami, United States, to live in the unity of the Spirit.

The auxiliary bishop of Managua emphasized that “all of Scripture assures us that in the bustle of the town, in the dust of our roads, in our daily efforts, God walks with us, guiding us, consoling us and lifting us up whenever we are down.”

Alluding to social and political life, the prelate said that “faith in a God, who is a community of love, leads us to live in solidarity, concerned about caring for the most vulnerable, promoting equal opportunities and fighting for overcome all inequality and injustice.

Regarding the repression and authoritarianism imposed by different regimes, Báez affirmed that faith in God frees us from “the temptation to exercise power in a totalitarian way and want to impose a single system of thought and use violence and repression to subdue the mayority”.

He also urged that to believe in God there must be a commitment “to implement the bases of a culture not of opposition, which in principle seeks to destroy the adversary, but of communion, built with the inclusion of all, the respect of all and everyone’s participation.

Referring to the biblical text about the Holy Trinity, the religious stressed that “those who truly love are different, but tend to relationship, closeness, intimacy; at the same time, those who live together in love always remain different, neither absorbing nor dominating the other».

«Belief in the Holy Trinity is not something abstract, but the greatest inspiration for a different lifestyle. Those who live together with a God, who is a community of love, do not get entangled in the traps of their selfishness, build relationships based on respect and appreciation of people’s differences, find joy in giving to others, never he feels greater than anyone, nor is he imposed by force, “he stressed.

Monsignor Báez, one of the most critical religious voices of the government of Daniel Ortega, once again called for unity, assuring that “those who live united with God (…) know how to listen, do not hurt or offend, seek dialogue, always offer opportunities and respects the rights and dignity of others. Whoever lives in this way shows his faith in the Holy Trinity ».
