Panama and Uruguay exchange strategies and experiences on Covid-19

The health authorities of Panama and Uruguay exchanged information on the actions that both nations have taken to face Covid-19, in these two years of pandemic.

The meeting was held virtually and the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, highlighted that in Panama work was being done to adapt hospital structures to care for patients. Likewise, he highlighted the enabling of digital platforms to respond to the population’s requests for care.

Meanwhile, the Minister Counselor for Health, Eyra Ruiz, shared that Panama acquired safe vaccines with the Pfizer and AstraZenca laboratories.

He reiterated that of the target population to be vaccinated, 82.4% have the first dose. In addition, 72.8% have two doses.

The national head of epidemiology at Minsa, Lourdes Moreno, explained the importance of epidemiological and genomic monitoring for the detection of new variants in Panama.

The Uruguayan health authorities, headed by Minister Daniel Salinas, emphasized that one of the main tools to counteract the effects of the coronavirus is vaccination. In addition, they intensified epidemiological and genomic surveillance.
