The president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, appeared this Thursday before the Secretariat of the union central, instance where he made a self-criticism after the traffic crash in which he was drunk, and apologized for what happened to his colleagues.
“It was a situation that is wrong and that could compromise the prestige of the entire labor movement,” Abdala began by saying. For that reason, the trade unionist recognized his mistake and was moved by the words and acts of support he received.
the workers center does not provide for any internal measures that transcends the public request for apology from the metallurgist himself and the sanctions that the Justice decides.
“I appreciate the messages of support, among which they have highlighted me as a committed, consistent, supportive person, a good colleague and whose pulse does not tremble when it comes to stopping complex situations to defend our interests, but that does not justify what happened” , maintained the president of the PIT-CNT.
Abdala told the Secretary that throughout his life he has always acted “with an ethic of responsibility” and assumed that all acts generate consequences.
“I accept the consequences of what happened to me” He admitted and explained that he is going through “very complex” personal and family difficulties, which, he said, “generated an environment prone to what happened, but it does not justify what happened.”
And he added: “We wanted to come to show our faces, make self-criticism and apologize. Under no circumstances am I going to stop being a fighter. For me, the PIT-CNT and the different organizations of the labor movement are very important, but I have to dedicate myself to resolve some issues of a personal nature. That is why I am requesting a license that has already been considered by the Secretariat until our collective bodies understand it,” he said.
A misdemeanor court will determine the corresponding penalties for Abdala. In Uruguay, alternative community work measures are applied, which can be arranged in a minimum of seven days and a maximum of 30 days. It must be daily and for 8 hours, under the conditions established by the Justice.
In addition, the driver’s license was taken away for a certain time, depending on the number of times the person was sanctioned and the amount of alcohol in the blood.
