Gender equality and the role of rural women are the focus of the school competition

The general director of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), Fernanda Maldonado, reported that this initiative seeks to raise awareness about the role of rural women and promote, from an early age, the concept of equity, equal rights and opportunities.
Maldonado, the deputy director of Rural Development of the MGAP, Mercedes Antía, and her partner for Initial and Primary Education, Olga de las Heras, presented, this Thursday, June 1, the sixth edition of the contest We learn fairness, at rural school No. 87, Pedernal, in the department of Canelones.
The call is aimed at children of 4th, 5th and 6th years who attend rural schools or localities of up to 2,000 inhabitants throughout Uruguay. Single grade or multigrade classes can participate.
we learn equity It is the product of a strategic alliance between the MGAP and Primary Education, through the Rural Development Unit. The objective, according to Maldonado, is to raise awareness about the role of rural women and promote, from an early age, the concept of equity, equal rights and opportunities.
In the presentation, the hierarch, who shared her experience as a student at a rural school, urged the children not to limit their dreams, since preconceptions referring to a profession being more typical of men or women do not stop them, as well as aspects linked to social status, accessibility and territoriality, among others.
The artistic proposals may include, for example, videos recorded with Ceibal devices, original songs, poetry, paintings or collective plastic works, dances. The teachers of the participating groups will guide them, within the framework of the classroom tasks and the educational process. In addition, the accompaniment of the teaching team is proposed, through an instance via Zoom with the coordinating team of the convening institutions.
