Neither Dayron Reyes nor Karel Espino on Cuba’s roster before the Gold Cup

With the absences of Dayron Reyes and Karel Espino, the Cuban team men’s soccer team will fight for one of the 23 official positions in the Concacaf Gold Cup with the base team of the last competitions.

The Cuban Football Association published the list of 33 shortlisted, a team without great news compared to previous calls.

At least 17 players could secure their place in the final squad, including Onel Hernández, Carlos Vázquez, Jorge Luis Corrales, Yosel Piedra, William Pozo, Aricheell Hernández and Modesto Méndez.

Soccer players such as Samoelbis López, Cristian Valiente and Roberney Caballero will fight for the other positions in the Cuban team, accompanied by youngsters Kevin Martin, Kevin Fernández, Greibel Palma and Romario Torres.

The final decision will be made by the coach, Pablo Elier Sánchez, who will follow the performance of the athletes in the last matches of the local competition.

A total of 19 shortlisted from the Cuban team play in foreign leagues, in Europe and America.

On June 11, the Cuban team will face Chile and on the 20th they will play against Uruguay. The debut in the Gold Cup would take place on June 27, against the Guatemalan team.

Cuban soccer: change in record time

The 17th edition of the men’s national team competition will be played between June 16 and July 16, 2023. In total, 15 stadiums in 14 metropolitan cities of the United States and Canada will host the matches, according to what Concacaf has published on its website.
