With the participation of primary, secondary and secondary students from official and private schools, from the 16 educational regions, the 2023 Regional Robotics Olympics will begin. So far, 550 teams have registered in the different categories, which adds up to 1,597 schoolchildren who will participate in this tie.
The competitions will take place from June 1 to August 11, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the inauguration will take place at the Colegio La Salle de Margarita, in the province of Colón , next Thursday June 1st.
The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, highlighted that “there has been an awakening with robotics, classes are becoming more interactive and, regarding a problem that must be solved in their community, young people are working on recycling, environmental conservation, support at home, distribution of medicines and, based on that need, a more collaborative learning is generated and also another type of skill through programming and technology”.
The strategy led by the president and the first lady, added the minister, is implementation for the improvement of education through STEAM and what this implies, in the development of project, soft, technological skills, problem solving and how to improve the world around us.
“I am excited to see so many students presenting their projects, putting into practice what they have learned in the robotics clubs of official and private educational centers. Today, with the start of the Regional Robotics Olympics, we continue to strengthen the path for more students to join Steam education, and prepare to face the challenges of the 21st century,” said Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, First Lady of the Republic.
The first lady added “I am sure that Panama will have a large and prepared delegation in the World Olympics of which we are the host, I invite the educators who took the Steam diploma to encourage their students to participate in the regional ones and perfect their projects; To those who were trained as judges, join this process for the benefit of the students and the country”
On June 14, at the Rubiano Institute, the projects of the applicants from San Miguelito and Panamá Norte will be presented; at the Fernando Guardia Jaén school, on June 16, it will be for the regional schools of Panama East, Darién and the Emberá Wounaan region; Meanwhile, on June 20, the Papa Francisco School will be the headquarters for Herrera and Los Santos. At the Padre Juan José Cánovas Educational Center, on June 23, the works of Veraguas and Coclé will be seen.
For Bocas del Toro, they will be received at the IPT El Silencio, on June 27; Meanwhile, the representatives of Chiriquí and the Ngäbe Buglé region will be able to attend the Félix Olivares Contreras School on June 29. At the Bilingual School of Panama, the work of the students of San Miguelito will be attended on July 3. On July 5, in West Panama, applicants will be reviewed at the Escuela República de Costa Rica.
Other robotics projects will also be attended to in that school region, on July 7, at the Visión del Saber Educational Center; on July 11, Colegio Javier, Panamá Centro; Santa María La Antigua University (USMA) on July 14, Central Panama and the Kuna Yala region; on the 20th of that month, at Howard Academy, West Panama and on July 28 at the San Cristóbal Episcopal Institute (Parque Lefevre) Central Panama.
In the month of August, on the 3rd, Panama East, at the Thomas Jefferson Institute and, on the 11th, in Colón, Eben Ezer School (Paseo Marino).
Meanwhile, the national Olympics will take place from August 22 to 24, in which the projects that will represent Panama in the international tournament will be chosen, which will take place from November 7 to 9 in our country, at the Panama Convention Center, until So far, more than 75 countries have confirmed their participation in the Robotics World Cup.
