Instructions for residents in Cuba with the right to vote in the Spanish elections on July 23

The Consulate of Spain in Havana summoned this Thursday the nationals of that country residing in Cuba to vote in the general elections on July 23.

In a Twitter threadthe diplomatic headquarters released the instructions both to cast the vote from the Island and to request the vote by mail if the citizen, being registered in Cuba, is traveling in Spain.

In the first case, there are two options: either deposit the ballot in the ballot boxes placed for this purpose at the diplomatic headquarters, between July 15 and 20, or send it by certified mail to the consular office until July 18 (the envelope must bear a stamp of that date and be received no later than July 21). In the second case, you can request to vote by mail in Spain until July 13.

Before, they must make sure that they appear in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA). For your consultation, the Consulate will enable an extraordinary service from June 5 to 12 at the headquarters of the Lonja del Comercio (Lamparilla street, in Old Havana), from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., except on the 10th and 11th , which will offer the service exclusively at the Palacio de Velasco headquarters, on Zulueta street.

can also be consulted electronicallybut for this they need to identify themselves with an electronic ID.

The Spanish Electoral Census Office will send the electoral documentation to the address of each voter, via its provincial delegations, between June 17 and 24. In this first shipment, they report, “voters will receive the envelope with the address of the competent Electoral Board, the envelope with the address of the Consular Office in which they are registered, as well as the voting envelopes; the certificates registration in the census; and an information sheet with all the relevant information to vote”.

These delegations will make a second shipment with the party ballots between June 28 and July 2, although these ballots can also be downloaded from a link that they will enable at the time.

The hours to vote in person, at the Lonja del Comercio, will be from 9 am to 5 pm.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, also General Secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), announced the call for general elections last Monday, after his defeat in the municipal and regional elections the previous day.

According to the last census, in Cuba 160,833 Spaniards reside, but very few votes were cast in those elections. Precisely days before, it came to light that representatives of the PSOE they asked for the vote for that party at a meeting for Spanish nationals falsely called on behalf of the Consulate.
