Under the progressive increase in positive cases for COVID-19 and patients who need hospitalization, the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks issued a resolution for closed high-complexity providers to increase the availability of beds in Intensive Care Units (ICU), in where it is sought that the number of enabled beds increase three hundred more than the 2,428 that there were until Tuesday.
The measure that means a 14% increase in resources of this type, “includes two other fundamental ideas. First, patients on mechanical ventilation should not be less than 75%, in order to have an efficient use of resources. In addition , only in the case of being essential, the health services will be able to cease some surgical activities”, explained the Undersecretary (s) of Assistance Networks, Nicolás Duhalde.
“The last four days we have seen and experienced a change in the behavior of the pandemic. This change forces us to increase the availability of beds that we have,” he added.
For his part, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, hopes that with the measure those infected by Covid in serious condition, all patients who require mechanical ventilation or intensive care will be treated.
“Once again, we require the collaboration of health officials, we know they are tired and there is pandemic fatigue, but we hope that this will be one of the last blows that this virus sends us,” he said.
