The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), ednaldo rodriguessaid this Sunday that the Italian Carlo Ancelottitechnician of real Madridcontinues to be his favorite to direct the Brazilian team and he will wait for the end of the Spanish championship to receive an answer.
“Our plan A continues to be exactly that (hiring Ancelotti). We have a feeling that this can work. We are going to wait for the end of the competition (the Spanish League). There is already a champion who is Barcelona, but we are going to wait that the competition ends because we have the intuition that it could work”, said Rodrigues in an interview with ‘Band’ television.
The entity’s president downplayed the fact that Ancelotti has so far not ruled on whether he would like to take over as Brazil coach, a vacant position since Tite resigned after Canarinha’s premature elimination at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. “If I I were in his place, with a contract in force, I would not detract from the company that hired me to do that (to say that it wants to assume another function)”, he said.
Rodrigues affirmed that Ancelotti is preferred because he has great charm for the Brazilian team and because he knows very well the players who have gone through and those who currently play for Canarinha.
He also said that the long wait for the CBF to announce the new coach is due to the fact that the entity wants a coach not only for a cycle but also for a project that includes the preparation of the new generations. “We want someone who has a project not only for the senior team but also for the grassroots teams, like the U23, U20 and U17, who can serve as feeders,” he said.
That project includes that the youngest players “can be observed and taken advantage of” by the main team. “He (Ancelotti) is a coach who has that vision and has the courage to place new talents to play. Therefore, without detracting from any other coach, whom we respect – and Brazil has many coaches whom we appreciate because they are competent We are still waiting,” he said.
Rodrigues stated that he hopes to be able to announce the new Brazil coach after the friendly window set by FIFA for June, in which the Canarinha will face Guinea on June 17 in Barcelona and Senegal three days later in Lisbon. “We hope that we can already have a clearer position in June and that we can speak with greater conviction,” he said.
Dorival, Diniz or Abel Ferreira, in the chamber
Despite the fact that no deadline was set for the announcement, he recalled that starting in September of this year Brazil will have its first commitments for the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. According to Rodrigues, in case it has to resort to plan B or the plan C, the Confederation looks at other coaches such as the Brazilians Dorival Júnior and Fernando Diniz, from Fluminense, or the Portuguese Abel Ferreira (Palmeiras).
“They are very important names. We follow the work of Dorival, Abel and Diniz. We have seen all the important work they have done and we also observe others that are important and that I do not mention but of which I can say that they are competent,” he assured.
He added that he is not interested in Abel Ferreira’s constant fights with the press and referees, but rather in the competence he has shown in his work as Palmeiras coach, with whom he has already won several titles, including last year’s Brazilian Championship and the Cup.
