Mexico City, Mexico.- In 2014 Armando Valdés stopped being an ordinary teenager from Cerro, in Havana, to become a celebrity. There was virtually no place he would go and not be approached to ask if it was “him.” People wanted to touch him, take pictures, have him film autographs. Total madness for a child who entered a movie theater as Armandito and came out as “chala”.
Chala is an 11-year-old boy from Havana who lives with his addicted mother, training fighting dogs and raising pigeons to survive. The little boy establishes a beautiful relationship with his teacher Carmela de él, a character played by alina rodriguez.
In a recent interview For the podcast of the Cuban influencer Carnota, the actor told how his experience was to transform into that boy who was so different from him.
“I didn’t have an acting job, I didn’t know what acting was. That’s why it’s my transformation too. They brought out the ‘bad’ of mine, the ‘bad’ that this child can have and they make him believe in those situations, ”said the actor.
After the premiere of Conduct, a film by Ernesto Daranas that moved all of Cuba, fame changed Armando’s life. In the interview he tells how his father had to take people off of him several times because they crowded around him.
He also narrated that his friends rode with him in the almendrones and when he got off he purposely said “Chala today you pay”, so when the driver turned around after hearing the famous nickname, he insisted that he could not charge the child of the moment, that the trip was free.
Today 23 years old, the young man has lived in Miami since the end of last year when he crossed the border. However, this was not his first time in the United States. Before he had traveled to New York to present the film and even walked a red carpet in a suit.
