A senior leader of the Catholic Church confirmed the freezing of the bank accounts of all the Dioceses of Nicaragua, among which are those of Matagalpa, Siuna and Bluefields.
He added that the first diocese to which the Ortega regime froze the accounts, last weekend, was that of Estelí “and already this week it was the other dioceses.”

He stressed that the banking entities that reported that the accounts of the Dioceses of Nicaragua were blocked are Bancentro, BDF and Banpro.
Regarding the reasons for the freezing of bank accounts, the prelate said that some priests from the Diocese of Estelí —without mentioning names— tried to make a transaction that Monsignor (Abelardo) Mata had to build a hospital, “but the Bank did not the transfer, and they said that —the Government— is going to investigate the precedence of the funds.”
