After the UCV elections were postponed, several of the rector candidates made criticisms and recommendations to the Electoral Commission
Several candidates to be rector of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) spoke after the deferral of the elections in that house of studies, between the night of Friday 26 and the morning of May 27, initially for June 9 .
The “Activos por la U” board, headed by Professor Humberto Rojas, rejected the decision of the UCV Electoral Commission to defer the electoral process and demands that both those responsible for the elections and the authorities explain what was done what happened to the community and make it clear to what extent they are responsible. They also urged them to apologize to the Ucevista community and the country for what happened.
In his opinion, what happened on election day shows the need to change the authorities of the UCV.
They also ask that together with the technical commission that will support the Electoral Commission, which was approved by the University Council, the incorporation of representatives of the plates be allowed to “reinforce and guarantee” that the processes established in the schedule are complied with.
He took advantage of Rojas’s plate to thank the participation of the entire ucvista community for his democratic demonstration that was evidenced by the “massive influx” on Friday, May 26, despite the delays and other reported inconveniences.

In the same way, he recognized the work of the board members and the others who participated in the logistical part in order to comply with the elections in the UCV.
For his part, the current acting secretary and also candidate for rector, Amalio Belmonte, highlighted the mobilization of the community to express their right to vote despite the “lack of foresight and inefficiency of the UCV Electoral Commission that generated regret and restlessness.”
He called on the Electoral Commission not to dismiss the mobilization to vote, which in his opinion shows the community’s support for that house of studies. In addition, he recommended that they take all kinds of precautions so that they can respond properly for the June 9 elections.
He gave his support to the approval of a technical commission that supports the Electoral Commission.
Although Miguel Alfonzo, another of the applicants and who is related to the ruling party, has not expressly pronounced himself, yes retweeted part of his right to speak during the extraordinary session of the University Council in which he claims that “it is not by chance that 80% of the tables were not open at 2:00 pm.”
For this reason, he asked that they “do not treat them as stupid” and accused that there was an alleged complicity to avoid the elections. For him, the issue is not the date but a transparent process.

For his part, Víctor Rago has not spoken so far and neither has Enrique López Loyo, former president of the National Academy of Medicine. However, he confirmed his position through a retweet to Dr. Huníades Urbina, who denounced that what happened at the UCV was part of sabotage.

In the case of Romulo Ortathe candidate proposed, in addition to the technical commission that supports the Electoral Commission, that the body in charge of organizing the elections be installed “sufficiently in advance” in the UCV so that it can guarantee a greater response capacity and tackle any eventuality before the day of June 9.
He also suggests that he be “more diligent” in carrying out the campaign during voting day because it was evident that there were “chops” rolling all over the campus, which violates the regulations.
