Gynecologist Carmen Troya: ‘95% of cervical cancer is associated with the human papillomavirus’

The doctor also referred to the issue of vaccination in children, since she considered it important because in the future it will be possible to have an area in Panama free of cervical cancer and free of cancer for men.

The gynecologist Carmen Troya, addressed this Thursday the detection of cancer in women and the absence of many of them to medical centers for routine tests.

He stated that many do not go to the doctor because they are afraid that the results will not be what they expect. “I’m not going to get a pap smear because I’m afraid something bad will come out and I’m not going to get a mammogram because it hurts. Those were the main causes because women were not going to get a diagnosis, ”she maintained.

She added that, in the pandemic, many women did not attend due to the closure of some polyclinics and the fear of contagion from Covid-19.

It revealed that 95% of cervical cancer worldwide is associated with persistent Human Papillomavirus infection.

The doctor also referred to the issue of vaccination in children, since she considered it important because in the future it will be possible to have an area in Panama free of cervical cancer and free of cancer for men.
