Following the announcement of the suspension of the elections for university authorities at the UCV due to inconveniences and delays that occurred throughout the day, the Electoral Commission decided that the process will be repeated on June 9.
The president of the Electoral Commission, Carlos Martín, clarified that it is not among the functions of the University Council to propose the date of the elections, but of the entity that presides over it, which decided to defer the process to that date.
After what happened, the president of the Association of University Professors of the UCV, José Gregorio Afonso, regretted the suspension of the elections and stated that May 26 was an “absolutely dark” day for that house of studies.

This is what Afonso said in an interview with Union Radio, where he warned that “the shadow won us the game” due to the adverse situations that arose during the day. “We demand that an extraordinary University Council be held and that from there a communication to the country and university students about this painful situation be decided.”
He also rejected the way in which a group of students entered the room where the University Council was in session to decide what to do with the elections and demand the resignation of the rector, Cecilia García Arocha.
He pointed out that, given the possibility of requesting help from the CNE for the elections, the president of the Apucv explained that sanctions would need to be lifted from the organization to act under the parameters of the UCV and a series of steps that could slow down the process.
