The authorities of the nucleus of the UCV in Maracay agree to safeguard the ballot boxes while waiting for the process at the main headquarters in Caracas to resume on June 9
The nucleus of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in Maracay continued the electoral process held this Friday, May 26, to elect the university authorities, despite the fact that the Caracas headquarters presented delays and inconveniences that led it to suspend the process. Until the 9th of June.
The dean of the Faculty of Agronomy, Leonardo Tayhardat, made a formal request to the University Council —meeting in Caracas— that they respect the process that took place in Maracay, oblivious to the problems of the main nucleus of the university, leaving it on the sidelines of the suspension announced by the Electoral Committee.
«The election process that took place on our campus was totally successful, with some delay due to the complexity of the election, which required many ballots since it now includes all sectors of the university community, but it took place in an extremely favorable condition. », he reasoned in a video sent to the University Council.
In this sense, he assured that, if an exception is made to the suspension of the process at the Maracay headquarters, the authorities could protect the ballot boxes while they wait for the process to be completed at the main headquarters.
“We formally request that the Maracay campus be exempted from any suspension of the elections and that we could guarantee the protection of the ballot boxes until the process is given in the other faculties to make the final count,” he explained.

Leyhardat stressed that for the nucleus of Maracay, the organization is complex and requires extraordinary efforts, since the members of the commission must travel to Caracas to coordinate with the authorities of the central headquarters and just the night before they looked for the ballots in the capital.
«We send this video to the University Council so that they take this situation into consideration, the result of a very important effort. We had to go to Caracas last night to bring all the tickets,” he insisted.

Chaos in UCV elections
Hours before Leyhardat’s video, a chaotic day at the UCV headquarters ended, marked from the first moments of the process by significant delays in various faculties and the impossibility of voting for several members of the university community.
Around 2:00 pm the University Council discussed the situation together with the Electoral Committee and an hour later the decision was made to suspend the process under the justification that there were problems with the reception of the ballots.
The decision unleashed chaos on campus, with an angry university community that broke into the academic coordination of the Faculty of Medicine, where the University Council was meeting and confronted the authorities.
