The United States called Wednesday “appalling” the racist insults uttered against the Brazilian striker Vinicius, of Real Madrid, during a match in Valencia for the Spanish league.
“I saw the screams directed at Vinicius Jr. They were obviously terrifying”said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. “I know that the Spanish authorities have taken action against this.”
“We condemn racism anywhere in the world wherever it occurs, including in sport, and we welcome efforts to combat it,” the spokesperson added.
The Real Madrid striker, 22, fI objected to all kinds of insults on Sunday, even racists, during his team’s 1-0 defeat against Valencia.
