During the night of Tuesday and the morning of Wednesday, there were two demonstrations against Sandra Quiñónez, attorney general of the State. The first was organized by the organization Somos Anticorrupción, headed by the social activist Esther Roa. While the second was by the CACE organization (Escrache Commission).
The first organization was demonstrating on Tuesday night on Mariscal López and San Martín avenues from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Nicolaza Saldívar, a member of the Somos Anticorrupción organization, stated that more than 20 people attended the event. In addition, she highlighted the support they received from the public.
“We were with batucadas. Many joined and supported. It was a very positive afternoon,” she expressed.
The group claims the inaction of the attorney general and therefore her removal from office.
“She is very inept and servile to the corrupt, that is why we asked for her departure,” he commented.
ESCRACHE COMMISSION
The organization Ciudadanos Autoconvocados Comision Escrache (CACE) organized a demonstration for its part yesterday morning. It started at 8:30 a.m. and lasted until noon.
The members ask for the resignation of the attorney general. In the event that it does not occur, they will be present in front of Congress when the political trial is discussed.
Aidé Vera, leader of the organization Ciudadanos Autoconvocados Comisión Escrache (CACE), reported that they demonstrated in front of the Public Ministry demanding the resignation of the attorney general.
“We are demanding the long-awaited resignation. We have been requesting for more than two years. The prosecutor is inept, servile and responds to politicians on duty. That is why there is so much impunity in emblematic causes of public corruption”, she expressed.
The protester lamented that there are no exemplary convictions in highly notorious cases of corruption.
“This prosecutor has not even met the requirements. We are fed up with political cuoteos”, she concluded.
CONTEXT
Sandra Quiñónez, state attorney general, has been the target of criticism since last Thursday, February 3. This after a complaint made by Arnaldo Giuzzio, Minister of the Interior, against Horacio Cartes for cigarette trafficking.
Rumors that the ruling party wanted to remove the attorney general gained strength over the weekend. However, despite the criticism of Abdo Benítez and Hugo Velázquez, the deputies do not express a clear position on the possibility of promoting the political trial.
