The Disciplinary Commission of the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut) pointed out in a resolution that the security measures adopted by the club FC Alliance for the game in which 12 people were killed on Saturday after a stampede were “insufficient and deficient.”
Said commission maintains in its disciplinary ruling that the club FC Alliance “did not adopt the measures leading to the prevention of the facts or did so negligently.”
“The security measures and access control mechanisms to the stadium, entry order, security measures were evidently insufficient and deficient, which does not admit any objection, due to the irreparable loss of lives of fans who attended the stadium, being prevailing to attribute responsibilities according to the seriousness of the events that occurred,” he said.
The Commission determined that the alliance due to “its status as a local club, it failed to comply with the obligations” imposed by the Disciplinary Code of Salvadoran soccer “by not applying adequate security regulations to guarantee order in the stadium and the normal development of the game”.
He added that the “security measures required by the circumstances before and during the match were not complied with, and it was his obligation to anticipate unforeseen incidents.”
The Fesfut Disciplinary Commission sanctioned the alliance with a $30,000 fine, it also determined that in the next two tournaments it would play its home games behind closed doors. He also awarded the victory of the match in which the tragedy occurred to Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS) and a pass to the semifinals.
The resolution realizes that a proposal to disqualify for one year, in the exercise of any activity related to soccer, the leaders of the Alianza did not reach the necessary votes.
The remains of three of the twelve fans who died in the stampede at the Cuscatlan Stadium, in the capital of The Saviorwere buried this Monday in the cities of Ciudad Delgado and Santa Tecla.
The Salvadoran authorities are still investigating the incident, and up to now they have not identified anyone responsible.
The death of these 12 people, which has become the greatest sporting tragedy in the Central American country, occurred within the framework of the return game between alliance and the FAS for the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2023 tournament.
