The Pope’s envoys to address the Belén Whittingslow vs. Christian Kriskovich case handle more information than what is said in the media, remarked the mother of the young exile in Uruguay.
Mónica Castañé, mother of Belén Wittingslow, pointed out that in the interview she had with the Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro and Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, and the official of the Department for the Doctrine of the Faith and Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu Farnós, it became clear that there is a state of rebellion of those who direct the Catholic University of Asunción and the ecclesiastical hierarchy in which Cardinal Adalberto Martinez is located.
“I was very impressed by how Monsignor Bartomeu Jordi perfectly handled everything related to the Belén case. He asked a lot about Christian Kroskovich and about Narciso Velázquez. He stressed that he is here to address not the judicial but the ecclesiastical part. He will submit to the Pope all the data collected. As a Catholic, I told him that I would love it when the legal process is over, a meeting with the Pope, with Belén,” Castañé told 1020 AM.
Rodrigo Cuevas, a lawyer for the Whittingslow-Catañé family, who also participated in the meeting with the Pope’s envoys, expressed for his part that at the meeting they learned, through Bartomeu himself, of the existence of another case of harassment in the UCA, who are investigating from the Vatican.
“They already knew everything (about the Belén case). They even asked us if we knew of a person (woman) who was coerced (on sexual harassment) to continue with them, and who was threatened that she would have problems if she did not testify in the way they demanded…. Monsignor Jordi even asked us that, “said the lawyer Cuevas.
Monica Castañé pointed out elsewhere, which highlights, after the visit of the Pope’s envoys, that in the Paraguayan church it became clear that those who direct the Catholic University of Asunción ignored the advice of Cardinal Adalberto Martinez. He asked that Kriskovich be separated from the educational entity, to pacify the spirits of the parishioner.
“Given this situation, the Pope sent these people to intervene in the situation,” said Castañé. He added that with the legal evidence and accurate testimonies given to Vatican investigators, it is more than certain that those who run the UCA will be removed.
