Cuba received the Destination Award Tourist Distinctive awarded by the International Travel Fair of the city of Guangzhou, in southern China, reports Latin Press.
The island is thus recognized as “the most unique and characteristic destination for sure, with a broad cultural, heritage and historical legacy,” the press outlet specifies.
The award, which was delivered to the Ministry of Tourism, highlights the range of tourism products for health, well-being and quality of life in the Caribbean country. Also its aromas and flavors, as well as the hospitality and kindness of the people, adds the note.
The Caribbean nation presented the promotional campaign “Unique Cuba in China” at this fair, an opportunity to promote destinations, products and potential of Cuban tourism in the Caribbean region.
Representatives of Cuba and China have signed several memos of understanding to promote cooperation and development of tourism: one in 2019 with the Chinese agency Ctrip -the second largest online travel agency in the world- to position its main destinations; and another in 2022 Caissa Tourism Group, considered one of the giants in the travel industry.
Cuba received about 1.6 million international travelers in 2022, a figure lower than the official forecasts that predicted the arrival of about 2.5 million.
For this year, the goal of receiving 3.5 million has been proposed, a difficult figure to achieve in the opinion of specialists. In the first four months of the year, Cuba received to 1,217,395 international travelers, which is 190.3% more than in the same period last year.
