The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, recalled that on this day he was re-elected by popular vote as National President for the period 2019-2025.
In a message posted on his account on the social network Twitter, the head of state expressed “deep gratitude to a people who placed their trust in me.”
Earlier, he made a call to shake off bureaucratism and apathy, to guarantee efficient management of the Government he leads.
“… we must recognize ourselves in the reality of an honest People,” he insisted while pointing this out as “the right path.”
On May 20, 2018, the National Electoral Council reported the victory of the candidate of the parties grouped in the Great Patriotic Pole, Nicolás Maduro, who obtained 67.84% of the votes.
This electoral process had the participation of four candidates among which Henry Falcón and Javier Bertucci stood out, who occupied second and third place with 20.93% and 10.82% of the votes respectively.
The Venezuelan democratic day was held amid threats and pressure from the late US administration of Donald Trump and European allies, who sought to prevent it from taking place.
“We won again, we triumphed again. We are the force of history turned into a popular victory, a permanent popular victory”, were Maduro’s words after learning of his victory.
