Mexico City, Mexico.- “We have a child 5-year-old with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, who underwent an equinus foot operation. In the early morning of the 17th she began to cry because her foot had lost its place in the cast ”. so it begins the story of a couple of parents Reynier Valdés and Nayla, who share a joint profile in networks.
Given the pain of their child, they called the ambulance service and it arrived quickly. However, the odyssey began at the Juan Manuel Márquez pediatric hospital.
“First, the orthopedics on duty were sleeping and when they appeared in the emergency room, the antechamber provided endless justifications to care for the child. “There is no plaster, there is no gauze, there is no adhesive tape, there is not, there is not.” Now I ask myself: are we or are we not a medical power? Where are the medical supplies for medical emergencies? Who is to blame for this?, questioned the little boy’s parents.
As can be read in the comments of the publication, they finally did not attend to the child, who continues to suffer from pain. Sadly, with increasing frequency, similar complaints appear in networks of patients or relatives of these who have suffered the collapse of the health system where even basic material for primary care is scarce.
In the publication by Reynier Valdés and Nayla, the user Karina Velazco wrote: “What we are experiencing in Cuba hurts a lot, that they demand materials and medical supplies for any procedure that are only found at the hospital level, pushing you to commit crimes as a recipient of things which, obviously, come out of our health system, and at unaffordable prices for those who live on a salary. The networks are full of these cases and the expected response does not arrive, only the laziness of those responsible and the despair of the family forced to “solve” any resource by their means.
