In August Meduca will pay teachers a pending salary increase

In a single payment, the Ministry of Education (Meduca) will disburse the $626.40 owed to teachers. This was the agreement reached last night between educational authorities and representatives of 26 teachers’ unions.

With the signed document, the payment of the two months of pending salary adjustments was agreed, in the second half of next August, a commitment acquired by the ancestor administration of the Ministry of Education (Meduca).

The Ministry of Education will face what was agreed by past administrations and will cancel the months of January and February of that year, which add up to 34 million balboas distributed in B/.626.40 for each of the approximately 48 thousand educators. This would be the disbursement that covers the salary increase of 900 balboas.

The director in charge of the Nation’s Budget, Alejandro Vernaza, was present at the meeting; the Secretary General of the Ministry of Government, Cristóbal Tuñón; and the Meduca work team, led by Minister Maruja Gorday de Villalobos.

The Academic and Administrative Vice Ministers, Ariel Rodríguez Gil and José Pío Castillero, respectively, also participated. In addition, the Deputy Director, Clarissa Torres; and Diego Almanza, director of Citizen Attention, both from the Ombudsman’s Office.

Groups such as AMIA, Umali, Amave, Aeco, the National College of Educators, Asomogrep, Voceros Comarcales Unidos, Aehe, the National Union of Education Workers, among other teachers’ unions attended this meeting with Meduca authorities.
