The Catholic community of the municipality of Pantasma, in the department of Jinotega, held a “radio talk” to raise funds and maintain Radio Santa María, which is owned by the Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Parish, in that municipality.
Its organizers stated that they intend to buy new equipment and improve the media coverage, which is why they decided to carry out this activity.
Father José Gustavo, parish priest of that town, who is the director of the radio, encouraged through the last Eucharist, to be generous with their donations, because it is by this means that the church maintains a permanent evangelization.

With the motto “Radio Santa María, a Marian voice in your home”, this medium aims to reach families with the live transmission of masses, the recitation of the rosary, preaching, catechism and music of Catholic animation, assured the religious.
The importance of radio
In this medium it is common to hear delegates preach the word of God, they are leaders who come from different communities and different parishes, they carry their religious message, but also notices of school meetings, vaccination days, cleaning of the cemetery and letters with greetings to birthday boys, without missing country music.
Some community musical groups have managed to record their compositions on this radio, such as the Soledad community choir. Two of his musical pieces are already playing on Radio Santa María.
“My radio has only one station,” said a humble peasant woman, to show that in her home they only tune in to Catholic radio. “There we listen to the father and when I’m sick and I can’t go to the temple then I pray from my house, I like the retreat songs,” she said.
six years on the air
The radio was founded by Father Giovanni Herrera on January 14, 2017. The equipment was just a 20-watt transmitter, a link, and an improvised tower where they placed the antenna, but with the collaboration of the community and some Catholics. who live abroad, have managed to improve their equipment.
This year, Father José Gustavo Sandino has decided to move the anniversary date of the radio to May 20, because in the month of January, the festivities of the Lord of Esquipulas are at their peak, which is one of the largest devotions of this town.
The religious also stated that they remain open to all those who wish to collaborate with the radio, since the needs are many and “we have the faith to be able to continue on the air for many more years.”
