In a joint statement, the Seregnista Youth and the Youth of the National Movement for the Homeland announced their decision to unite to participate together in the March of Silence, which is held every year on May 20.

Despite the existing political discrepancies in the current scenario, both political youths are fully aware of the coincidences they share when defending freedom, the Republic and democracy, just as Wilson and Seregni did.

May 20 is a date on which Uruguayans remember the murders of Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz, Zelmar Michelini, Rosario Barredo and William Whitelaw, as well as the kidnapping of Manuel Liberoff, who has still been missing since 1976 in Buenos Aires. At the same time, they firmly repudiated any speech that seeks to deny, ignore or minimize the bloody practices of State terrorism and its consequences. This refers to the project promoted to grant house arrest to those convicted of crimes committed during the dictatorship.

Finally, when commemorating the 50th anniversary of the coup, both groups ratify their commitment, in this very symbolic year for the fight for memory, truth and justice, to continue building bridges between youth and with other political forces. The objective is to promote reflection in the new generations and contribute
