An inhuman discovery of five “kittens” dead from poisoning, keeps the residents of the Raúl Leoni II Etapa urbanization in Maracaibo, Zulia state, shocked.
The situation was reported in videos on social networks rejecting this cruel action and requesting the intervention of the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, to act and punish those responsible for this crime.
Given this situation, the state coordinator of the Nevado Mission, Leonardo Jiménez, published the actions carried out on Instagram @nevadozulia. “During the night of May 17, after the sighting of the bodies of poisoned community cats in the Raúl Leoni Blocks, of the Maracaibo Municipality, our legal team was deployed carrying out legal expertise together with the CICPC.”
The legal procedure of the case of the cats began
Jiménez, when consulted, explained that the case was placed under the order of the Public Ministry in the 28th Environment Prosecutor’s Office and the Nevado Mission will continue to accompany the legal work and the pertinent efforts that contribute to justice being done.
He specified that initially, as part of the investigation, CICPC officials conducted interviews with the residents of the Raúl Leoni Blocks, it was found that most of the “kittens” had been sterilized, both by the Nevado Mission and by people who collaborate with the protection of animals, they even fed and cared for them regularly.
Among the declarants, the version was exposed that the person responsible could be a person known by the alias “Matarife de Gatos de Raúl Leoni” and they fear that he will continue to exterminate these defenseless animals.
The sadness was shocking when confirming that one of the poisoned cats was Minina, the oldest feline in the Raúl Leoni II Stage urbanization, there were tears and expressions of clamor for justice, because there were previously reports of similar deaths in Block 11 of this sector.
Increased awareness in pet care
Leonardo Jiménez, coordinator of the Nevado Mission in the entity, reflected that pet care requires more attention and responsibility; especially sterilization to control reproduction; Many people irresponsibly leave abandoned animals on the street, which contributes to the proliferation of offspring.
I invite the communities to organize to support the Nevado Mission for progressive sterilization, which is done through a census and “in addition, this work is carried out by other organizations and foundations with the authorization of the Nevado Mission.”
He highlighted the work carried out with mysticism by various foundations and shelters who, with their own resources, house and care for animals that they have found on the streets.
Jiménez informed that this month there are free workshops in the municipalities of Maracaibo and San Francisco, with veterinary care, nail trimming, deworming, ear cleaning, and a census for sterilization; they also receive donations of medicines and supplies (gauzes, syringes, gloves and hydrogen peroxide)
Finally, he said that it is important to denounce any type of animal abuse that violates their physical or psychological condition.
