One month after the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) obtained arrest warrants against Mexicans involved in the operation Fast and Furiousthe court order against Luis Cárdenas Palomino, former Intelligence Coordinator for Crime Prevention of the former Federal Police (PF), has not been complied with.
The notification of these orders issued by a Mexican judge could not be fulfilled against the drug trafficker Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán Loera and Genaro García Luna, former federal Secretary of Public Security (SSP), since both are subject to criminal proceedings in the United States.
The one who has already been formally accused by the FGR of being allegedly co-responsible for the illegal introduction of more than 2,000 firearms by US agents and delivered to criminal groups operating in Mexico is Facundo Rosas Rosas, who is already imprisoned in a federal center of social rehabilitation in Hermosillo, Sonora.
The FGR announced a month ago the obtaining of seven arrest warrants, including one against Cárdenas Palomino, who is already in prison in Mexico accused of torture, but the Federal Public Ministry has not notified him of the order related to Fast and Furious presumably in order not to reveal all the evidence that the prosecution has against all those involved.
As for the other former officials with arrest warrants, it was only reported that they are people who are still at large and therefore their names are not disclosed, to prevent them from fleeing.
The investigations into this case are still open and, according to ministerial officials, the alleged responsibilities of former customs officials who supported the transfer of weapons to Mexico have yet to be determined.
