Two dead, probably one of them the author of the attack, and several wounded left this Wednesday an attack against a military headquarters in the municipality of Granada, in the Colombian department of Meta, reported the local press.

“Preliminarily it would be a vehicle with explosives. One of our soldiers was killed and two more, so far, are reported as wounded,” a military source told the El Tiempo newspaper site.

The incident occurred in the 21st Battle Pantano de Vargas Infantry Battalion, located in the municipality of Granada, and initially there would have been a load of explosives tied to a motorcycle.

The person who was traveling on the motorcycle also died, according to the Bogota media.

Initial versions indicate that the vehicle was activated upon admission to the military unit, when the guards asked for the documents.

Food was going to enter the motorcycle for the military unit’s casino.

The newspaper El Nuevo Siglo also mentions a “motor pump”, but raises the number of injured to five.

The governor of Meta, Juan Guillermo Zuluaga, expressed his rejection of the attack.

“I repudiate and condemn the terrorist attack on the 21 Vargas Battalion in Granada. 2 dead and 4 injured is the unfortunate result of this cowardly attack. Today, more than ever, security efforts must be redoubled. We do not want our department to become the scene of war,” Zuluaga wrote on his social networks.

So far the authorities have not attributed the violent action to any illegal group and no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The FARCX dissident groups, which reject the 2016 peace agreement, have a strong presence in the area.

However, Defense Minister Diego Molano added his condemnation to Zuluaga’s and promised that the government will respond “with forcefulness.”

“In the face of a terrorist attack on a military installation in Granada, Meta, we will respond forcefully and capture those responsible; the death of a soldier hurts us, all of Colombia must support the Public Force,” the official wrote on his Twitter account.
