Mossi after not being re-elected at CABEI: “I’m still not leaving, for better or worse for some”

After the Assembly of Governors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the still president of the financial institution, Dante Mossi, assured at a press conference that the decision not to be re-elected was taken unanimously by the representatives of the member countries. .

Mossi’s term at the head of CABEI expires on November 30, 2023, a position he has held since 2018, when Nicaragua registered the social revolt in April and the financial institution’s loans increased considerably to the Central American country.

“They (Governors) decided not to extend the offer for me to continue and this was unanimously approved by the plenary session of the Assembly… I am not leaving yet, for better or worse for some. There are some tasks left,” Mossi said in the face of strong criticism from Nicaraguan opponents and social organizations from Honduras and El Salvador, who asked for non-re-election in the Presidency of the multilateral organization.

The CABEI Board of Governors, the highest authority of the financial institution, held its annual meeting in the Dominican Republic on May 12. In that meeting the decision was made not to offer Mossi the possibility of re-election.

According to a press release from the Nicaraguan regime, the representatives of the dictatorship supported the initiative to remove Mossi and justified that said decision “was made within the framework of compliance with the Bank’s institutional policies, which establish a competitive process.” Even the name of Mossi does not appear in the notes of the propaganda media.

According to opposition organizations, CABEI has disbursed to the State of Nicaragua since 2017, a sum of 3,500 million dollars for social development projects, “which are not evidenced in the reality of citizenship; this amount represents 26% of CABEI’s credit portfolio”.

Prior to the departure of Mossi from the CABEI Presidency, an international contest will be opened for the selection of a new executive president and the new controller. The selected person will begin his five-year term on December 1, 2023
