Cuba and the United States won this Sunday the two titles in dispute in the tournament of Beach volleyball of North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca), held in the spa of Varadero.
The Cuban scepter was obtained by the second couple from the island in the men’s sector, made up of the young Daniel Martínez and Lázaro Portes. Meanwhile, among the ladies, the American duo of Katie Lindstrom and Teegan Van Gunst prevailed.
Martinez and Portes defeated the experienced pairing of Troy Field and Tucker Silila, from the United States. The Cuban success materialized after three hard-fought sets, concluded with a score of 21-18, 19-21 and 15-10, according to review the digital site Hit.
The bronze went to the main Cuban duo, made up of the most seasoned Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, who had lost to their compatriots in the semifinals. Already for third place, they beat the Mexicans Jorge Barajas and Gabriel Cruz, with partial scores of 21-16 and 21-18.
For their part, the northerners Lindstrom and Van Gus were better than the Mexicans Susana Torres and Atenas Gutiérrez in two sets (21-16, 21-19), with which they climbed to the top of the podium in Varadero.
Also Americans Geena Urango and Carly Skjodt completed the vanguard trio, dispatching Canadians Ruby Sorra and Lea Monkhouse for bronze, with a score of 21-18 and 21-19.

Among the women, Cuba was far from the medals, as its two pairs finished in sixth and eighth places, far from the positions achieved in previous editions.
The Varadero tournament is part of the Norceca beach volleyball circuit in 2023, which has stops in different nations in the area. This edition brought together 32 couples from 16 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean, says Hit.
According to the specialized publication, Norceca awards points for the regional ranking and also contributes to qualifying for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.
