The Cuban Robiel Yankiel Sol, Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion, imposed this Sunday in Italy a new world record in the long jump of the T46 category.

The young man from Havana, who just a few days ago turned 20 years old, stretched to 7.69 meters at the Jesolo Para-Athletics Grand Prix, in which the island won several medals.

Robiel Yankiel achieved the new universal mark in his second jump at the Armando Picchi stadium. In addition, he registered two other excellent jumps of 7.36 and 7.43 meters, as reported the digital site Hit.

In this way, he destroyed the previous record, established in 2011 by the Frenchman Arnaud Assoumani, and confirmed his great form, after marking 7.77 meters in a recent confrontation of the national team in Havana.

So, that jump was not approved for registering in a competition outside of World Parathletics, explains the sports publication.

On the other hand, now the Cuban was able to do himself justice and achieved the record and the title in Jesolo, with a wide advantage over his rivals. On the podium he was escorted at long distance by the Japanese Hajimu Ashida (6.58 meters) and the Egyptian Abdulrhm Shabib (6.40).

Luis Bueno, Robiel’s trainer, told Hit that they were waiting for a great result due to the conditions and the good preparation of their pupil.

“Everything experienced in the preparation led us to assume that this result would come,” said Bueno, who commented that the young jumper “is an athlete who, due to his dedication and discipline, deserves these results.”

For her part, star sprinter Omara Durand won two Grand Prix titles in the T12 category. The multi-time Paralympic champion prevailed in the 200 meters, with a time of 24.15 seconds, and in the 100, with 12.11, in her first performance in the hectometer this season.

Meanwhile, Noraivis de las Heras dominated the bullet drive in the F44 category, with a delivery of 9.12 meters; while Felipa Hechevarría obtained the bronze in the long jump of the T46 category with 5.22 meters, review Hit.

The Jesolo Grand Prix is part of the preparation of the Cuban para-athletes with a view to the World Championship in Paris, which will take place at the beginning of July. This appointment will award the first direct places to the Paralympic Games next year, in the French capital itself.

The current campaign also includes the V Youth Parapan American Games in Bogotá, in June, and the Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile, in November.
