Although initially the hypothesis was handled that the events in which three Venezuelan minors and members of the same family lost their lives, occurred in Bravo River, border of Mexico and the United States, later it was clarified that the place of events was the well-known Darién plug. An uncle of the victims shared photos of the children and reported that their mothers were unharmed.

Three Venezuelan minors belonging to the same family died at the Darién border crossing, reported Ricardo Gutiérrez, administrator of the Facebook account “Morocheros por el Mundo” and a relative of the deceased.

Gutiérrez pointed out that the victims are an eight-month-old baby, a nine-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old adolescent. All were from the Nueva Venezuela sector of the Lagunillas municipality, Zulia state.

“I regret to inform you that three members of my family drowned in the Rio Grande on the border with Mexico,” Gutiérrez wrote on his Facebook wall, but later rectified that the tragedy occurred in a river in the Darién Jungle.

His message is accompanied by the faces of the three “migrant warriors”; Alejandro Rodríguez, 16 years old, and his 8-month-old and 9-year-old nieces. A source close to the family said that everything happened when they were leaving the Plug, “we do not have much information about the event.”

For its part, the media Zulia Regional reported that so far they have managed to rescue the bodies of the 16-year-old boy and the eight-month-old baby. Like so many other Venezuelans, the family planned to meet again with one of the husbands of the Rodríguez sisters who was waiting for them in the United States.
