ELN delegation assures that Petro contradicts itself and asks to define the negotiation

The ELN negotiating delegation asked the government of Gustavo Petro to define its position on whether they consider the negotiations a “serious political process” to overcome the armed conflict and advance on the road to national reconciliation.

The negotiating delegation of the ELN guerrilla maintained this Saturday, May 13, through a statement, that the government of Gustavo Petro contradicted himself with his speech before the military leadership and asked the president to define the character of his government in the negotiation.

During his speech last week in front of the military leadership, the Colombian president assured that the ELN negotiators “sit at the table and talk, but do they rule? There each of us has many questions. Do they really rule?

In addition, he said that a large part of the ELN structures are dedicated to illegal businesses: “They all revolve around the illegal economy, they have little to do with Father Camilo Torres. They have the same flag, but their raison d’être is the illicit economy.

Given Petro’s words, the ELN negotiating delegation expressed its annoyance and asked the Petro government to define its position on whether they consider the negotiations a “serious political process” to overcome the armed conflict and advance on the road to national reconciliation.

“The direct questioning of the ELN Dialogue Delegation, the disrespectful and stigmatizing treatment of our organization, and the security doctrine that it outlined in which, as it defended, there is no longer a ‘conflict of ideologies or social conflict’ but rather a fight against the ‘illicit economies’, supposes a fundamental questioning of the political sense of the Dialogue Table and all its architecture”, the letter pointed out.

It was also requested that the agreements signed on March 10, during the second cycle of talks to reach total peace with this group, be fulfilled.
