Opponents and critics of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo described as a triumph for Nicaragua the non-reelection of the still president —until November— of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dante Mosi.
Hector Mairenaa member of the political council of the opposition Blue and White National Unity (Unab), told Article 66 that “the fact that today the Assembly of Governors of the Economic Integration Bank has resolved that Mossi will not continue at the helm of that important financial institution is a victory” for the blue and white forces and a blow to the dictatorship.

He pointed out, once again, that Mossi has been an accomplice and defender of the presidential couple Ortega and Murillo, “facilitating an enormous flow of fresh financial resources in a disproportionate way; In addition (Mossi) condemned the sanctions that Ortega officials have received for human rights violations and corruption.

Likewise, he said he “welcomed” the decision of the Board of Governors and hopes that the financial entity considers the issue of respect for human rights and democracy, in its criteria and parameters to provide financing.

For his part, Enrique Martinez, spokesperson for the Unity Platform for Democracy (PUDE), indicated that Mossi’s non-reelection represents “a collective triumph of the people of Nicaragua and of the opposition voices that articulately demanded and denounced facts that show Dante’s mismanagement and complicity Mossi in financing the repressive mechanisms of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, against the Nicaraguan people.
The student leader, also, affirmed that this fact marks the possibility of continuing to increase the efforts to denounce and alert international financing mechanisms and institutions, “resuming the considerations of the UN group of experts to assess the factors of human rights and democracy . Today we have to continue fighting for that democracy, freedom and justice in Nicaragua,” he said.
«Victory of Nicaraguan resistance»
Another of the opponents who reacted to Mossi’s non-reelection was the lawyer and also a member of Unab Juan Diego Barberena, who stated that this is “a victory for the Nicaraguan resistance.”
“It is a victory for the exiles who have been in the different CABEI headquarters in Central America, demanding that they stop financing the Ortega and Murillo dictatorship, but also demanding that Dante Mossi stop being the financier of the dictatorship,” stressed.
He also said that this decision “is a defeat for the Nicaraguan regime and its financiers; and this is also a precedent for the rest of regimes authoritarianism that is being reproduced in Central America, that if we want to have economic integration, we have to have integration and democratic societies».
The former politician and presidential hopeful Felix Maradiaga He recalled, for his part, that CABEI has disbursed more than three thousand 500 million dollars to the State of Nicaragua for social projects.

CABEI has provided more than three billion dollars in loans to Ortega after 2015. The flows of money for the Nicaraguan dictatorship became larger after the sociopolitical crisis that began in April 2018. During his administration, Mossi always supported the Ortega’s actions and maintained that the financing was transparent.
