The Venezuelan Jorge Barroso, who held various public positions at the municipal level in the country, decided to try his luck again in politics but in Spain, since he ran as a candidate for mayor for the Popular Party in Segart, a town of 177 inhabitants near the city of Valencia, for the elections scheduled for May 28.
Barroso, in an interview with EFE, stated that his passion is politics and told the inhabitants of Segart that “they have a Spanish Venezuelan who comes willingly, who comes to help, to collaborate, and also to learn.” He expressed his desire to be able to serve Spain, which became his host country.
He stated that he had arrived in the Iberian nation “a little down” in politics because of what is happening in Venezuela, which in his opinion has been “very rude” in the last 22 years and where it is a risk to think differently.
But he decided to return to politics in Spain after considering that there is more respect and that it is softer compared to the Venezuelan territory. He talks that he has a vocation for service and that he wants to collaborate to improve the lives of citizens and help the Spanish and Latin Americans.
What he learned as a politician in Venezuela he now wants to transfer to Spain, the country in which he wants to “put down roots.”
Jorge Barroso was a member of the Leoncio Martínez Parish Council, councilor of Petare and president of the Municipal Council of Sucre.

He assures that he arrives with his “values, principles and education” to give “everything for everything”.
Although he recognizes that the way of doing politics in Spain is different from that of Venezuela, he misses the dynamics of taking tours, music and sharing with Venezuelans.
“The only thing is that right now there is no democracy -he points out-, there is no respect in Venezuela; that is the difference” with Spanish politics, highlights the candidate.
But that is not why he is no longer grateful for the “good reception” that Spain gave him and believes that the most important thing in politics is “to be honest with the people and fulfill” what is committed.
Barroso assures that he still has “much to learn” from Spanish customs and claims that motto for politicians: “We are here to serve; he who does not serve to serve, does not serve to live ».
