The government asserted that sanctions will be applied to civil and police officers involved in the “irregular” donation” to Conmaq of a car reported stolen in Chile. President Luis Arce instructed two ministers to identify those responsible who possibly incurred in omissions in controls or issued reports in contravention of current regulations.

“Surely if it has come to this situation (that the president donated a stolen car) there are control instances that have not done their job As appropriate, these instances will be sanctioned and we will have the names and surnames of the people who have committed an irregular act. As the president has said: ‘I want the names and surnames of these people on my desk,’” said presidential spokesman Jorge Richter. He clarified that Arce’s words were given at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The irregular donation occurred on March 27 of this year. It was the head of state who delivered a vehicle to members of the National Council of Ayllus and Markas of Qullasuyu. A month later, it was learned that the car had been reported stolen in Chile.
For Richter this fact cannot be considered as an “oversight” of the officialsbut yes —from his criteria— it is not a structural problem either, as some sectors of the opposition to what he called “political opportunism” would be asserting.
“It is not that governments are always exempt from corruption, the important thing is the attitude that you assume with the corruption. That is essential,” he said.
The Chilean Vehicle Search Group estimates that in Bolivia there are at least 5,000 cars that were stolen in that countrys. The director of this non-governmental organization, Hugo Bustos, assured this medium that there are at least 12 stolen cars that were delivered to different institutions in Bolivia.
“They are vehicles that (are) in the hands of the Presidency; They are delivered by Customs and then they begin to donate it instead of returning it to the owners. We have cases of three and four years, what happens is that now it broke out because it was the president who delivered a stolen car, In other words, he has already reached the limit of shamelessness,” said Bustos, a retired police officer.
The Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, reported that A disciplinary investigation began within the Police to identify the police officers who were involved in allowing a vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Chile, to be delivered to Conamaq.
“The corresponding disciplinary investigations within the Bolivian Police have already begun. We seek to find out who the police officers would have issued these reports. and if his conduct conforms to what is established by the norm or would have adapted his conduct to a fault, contravention or even some crime”, he maintained.
LThe investigations are being carried out at the Vehicle Theft Prevention Directorate (Diprove) as well as in the National Customs to sanction public servants.
“If there are people, be they civilians, military or police who are adapting their conduct beyond what is established by current legal regulations, they have to receive a sanction”, he emphasized.
Asked by the press regarding whether the vehicle will be returned to the owners, he confirmed that it will be returned, like other cars that are found on the borders with Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
