Unique presentation of the Haiti Clásico concert in the Minor Basilica of the San Francisco de Asís Convent, on Thursday, May 18 at 6:00 pm, under the artistic direction of Helson Hernández.
This is an unusual concert because it deals with Haitian music seen from its most academic composers, in a country where its culture is fundamentally associated with folklore and the popular, according to a press release that reached this newsroom.
The works selected in the program will have their premiere in Cuba, and correspond to composers little known on the island such as Ludovic Lamothe known as “the black Chopin” and “the last true romantic”, Frantz Casseus, Occide Jeanty, Julio Racine who was a professor flute and also director of the “Orchester Philharmonique Sainte Trinité”, Jules Héraux founder and director of the Orpha Philharmonic Society, Max Piquion considered one of the most prolific composers of Haitian popular songs, in addition to others still alive such as the conductor, composer, singer, violinist and pianist Christopher Ducasse and John Karly, the latter representing Haiti’s youngest creators.
The information expands that the Cuban soloists who will assume the first public auditions on Cuban stages of these scores will be the pianist Vilma Garriga, concert guitarist Mabel González, the violist Amaya Fuentes, the cellist Vanessa Báez, Rafael Aquino on the double bass, and the violinists Elizabeth Yodú and Margarita Gámez.
Another attraction is not only the diversity of formats, but also the beautiful songs that through their emotions will transport us to the Caribbean nation when interpreted in their native language, Creole, in the voices of the tenor Eugenio Hernández and the mezzo-soprano. Merlin Cruz.
