Political scientist highlights that the current government of Costa Rica failed to get even 1% of the vote in these elections


He mentioned that the electoral geography of Costa Rica and its territorial dynamics are very particular, especially since the 2018 election.

The political scientist Juan Diego Alvarado, elucidated this Wednesday on the presidential elections in Costa Rica, held last Sunday, February 6.

He stated that there is a government that governed two administrations in a row, but for this election it did not manage to obtain even 1% of the vote and did not obtain a single seat in the Legislative Assembly.

He mentioned that the electoral geography of Costa Rica and its territorial dynamics are very particular, especially since the 2018 election.

“The debate on abstentionism in Costa Rica is quite long. Before 1998, it had had a very high electoral participation, hovering around 80%. Since the 2002/2006 elections, they have not managed to exceed 70%,” Alvarado specified.
