García posted a video on his Twitter profile in which sentence by sentence he denies the recent intervention by Mariela Castro on her daughter, a trans woman locked up in a men’s prison for protesting the July 11.

“She said that my daughter was fine where she is and that she also turned her back on what happens to her on social platforms,” Garcia explained. The mother expressed her annoyance at the words of the director of the National Center for Sexual Education of Cuba (Cenesex) because they not only contradict the complaints that García has made for more than a year, but also omit the letters and audios that Brenda has sent from the jail.

Ana María stressed that her daughter is aware of the campaigns that have been carried out to demand her release and that she be treated according to her gender identity. And even she has thanked activists and the media for giving visibility to her case. “Brenda knows well what is being done for her,” García pointed out.
Mariela Castro Espin said this wednesday in a press conference that the political prisoner was “very well” in the male section of the prison for people with HIV Cuba-Panama.
“Her mother even expressed that she felt very calm that Brenda was still there,” added Castro Espín. To which Ana, she replied, she was annoyed that her daughter has not even had access to the medicines she needs to treat her ailments or her specialized care. “I had to find her medicines for her,” she added.
According to the official, daughter of the dictator Raúl Castro, the complaints about Díaz’s situation are part of an “oversized story full of fantasies.”
Brenda Diaz was sentenced to 14 years in jail for alleged “public disorder and sabotage” during anti-government protests. In a recently held second trial, she was added another seven months to her sentence for an alleged crime of “contempt”.
Her mother denounced that Brenda asked a guard not to call her “faggot” and he responded by hitting her and sending her to a punishment cell. For this reason, Díaz was prosecuted and her sentence was increased.
